The Give and Take

“The Give and Take” was inspired by essentially everyone who suddenly decided to take a leave from my life. For as long as I can remember, I’ve suffered from close bonds pre-maturely burning out. Over the years, I’ve tried to understand why by attempting different levels of emotional commitment, physical presence, and expressions of love, but I've never quite gotten it right… In all my life, only one person has ever remained constant: my life-partner, Manny.

But even he has his moments of doubt. Marriage is difficult, friendships are problematic, and family… is a bitch. It can be an incredible hardship to find and keep stability in any kind of relationship.

At times, it’s hard to tell if we are giving or if we are taking because perspective has a funny way of framing the events of our lives. I wanted this piece to speak to that. To be unclear if the absent heart was given or removed; if the hand was taking or offering.
